Grupo Modelo announced the launch of the world’s lightest can. Compared to conventional cans, this one has 1.4 grams less than conventional cans thanks to a unique process that reduces the weight of aluminum, thus advancing its sustainability goals for 2025 and its ambition to achieve zero net emissions along its entire value chain by 2040.

The new cans will be available to consumers in northern Mexico through the Corona and Victoria brands, while at the national level it will be the Pacífico brand that incorporates this presentation. The savings in aluminum will result in a reduction of 247 tons of CO2.

“This initiative in favor of the environment is an example of the comprehensive transformation we are undergoing at Grupo Modelo to become a company of innovation, technology and service, following environmental, social and governance criteria.) We dream big, that’s why we want to be here 100, 200 years more, and these cans reflect that desire to contribute more and more to the environment and to a future with more reasons to toast.”said Cassiano De Stefano, president of Grupo Modelo.

Likewise, the estimated annual reduction of 100 tons of aluminum directly represents a saving of 840 mwh of energy, as well as a reduction of 247 tons of CO2. “This is an unprecedented innovation at a global level for 410ml cans. With this, we are getting closer to meeting our 2025 sustainability goals, where we want to have more sustainable packaging that generates the lowest possible environmental impact.”concluded Gabriela Kuri, Grupo Modelo’s Director of Sustainability in Circular Packaging.
