Mill Steel has purchased a 12,000 square kilometer facility in Mansfield, located in the state of Ohio. This facility will thus consolidate its position as its main in-house processing location for stainless steel and aluminum flat-rolled products, as well as carbon steel offerings.
This expansion also supports Mill Steel’s recent acquisition of the Cleveland Metal Exchange (CME), signaling the company’s entry into the flat-rolled stainless steel and aluminum metal markets.
Mill Steel also made the decision to move to a new location, with the intention of equipping it with a Pro Eco and a Paxson slitting line, plus a deep-loop shaft for the treatment of surface-critical materials. This will help offer lower prices and better delivery times within the Midwest. In addition, it is expected to add capabilities for cutting materials over long distances.
In particular, the plant is ideally located to support rail and intercity transport. It is also close to Cleveland Cliffs Mansfield Works, which offers the possibility of having specialized stainless steel and aluminum suppliers to meet the industry’s growing demand.
Mill Steel CEO Pam Heglund expressed her enthusiasm in selecting this site for their facility expansion because of the proximity to their target market and the benefits the location offers. This will provide increased production capacity to support the impressive growth the company has experienced.
Finally, to achieve better results, Mill Steel announced a new investment of close to US$18 million at its Detroit headquarters to add modern cutting, packaging and storage lines. These changes are expected to be completed by 2024, which will vastly increase Mill Steel’s process capabilities with the intention of developing and expanding new lines of business.
