Mexico City is currently celebrating the 2025 Barter Market, organized by the Mexico City Ministry of Environment (Sedema), which aims, among other things, to mitigate climate change through recycling.
The Barter Market is itinerant, so its location changes to allow residents from different areas to benefit from it and, at the same time, encourage environmental care. It is being held in the San Juan de Aragón Forest, located in the Gustavo A. Madero district.
Users bring solid waste, which, once clean and compact, will be weighed at the market, so that it can be exchanged for various items. Aluminum cans, iron cans, glass, PET, cardboard, and even electronic and electrical waste can be brought.
Once the items are weighed, Sedema staff give out “green points”, which are exchangeable for essential items such as water bottles, toilet paper, and even vegetables and/or plants.
This is the first Barter Market of 2025, and it will be set up at different points in the city on the second Sunday of each month, so we recommend keeping an eye on Sedema’s social media networks.
