The Beverage Can Association (ALB), a non-profit organization formed by the companies that supply beverage cans in the Spanish and Portuguese market – Ardagh Group, Ball and Crown – has announced the incorporation of Mercedes Gómez Paniagua as director of the organization.

With a degree in Environmental Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the new head of the ALB also holds an MBA from the Universidad Europea and a PhD from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

A professional in the field of the Circular Economy for more than 24 years, Mercedes Gómez Paniagua specializes in the recycling of packaging waste, having spent most of her career in the technical field and in research, development and innovation. Until joining Ecosense, Gómez held the position of CEO of Ecosense Foundation. Prior to that, he worked mainly on extended producer responsibility for packaging for 15 years at Ecoembes.

Since its creation in 1995, the Beverage Can Association has promoted during all this time the positive positioning of its packaging as well as offering information about its consumption and recycling.


The ALB is a member of Metal Packaging Europe, the umbrella organization for the metal packaging industry in Europe.
