Amcor Capsules, a company dedicated to the development and production of environmentally friendly closures for wines and spirits, has succeeded in increasing the sustainability of its market-leading line of aluminum Stelvin closures. This progress has been made possible by reducing its environmental impact by 35%.

The production of a Stelvin screw cap now has a 35% reduction in carbon emissions compared to standard screw caps made from European aluminum foil. This was achieved by using up to 46% recycled aluminum and carefully selecting low-carbon primary aluminum, certified and third-party verified during the manufacturing process. This immediate reduction applies to Stelvin and all 30H60 screw caps produced in Europe, North and South America for wine and spirits brands.

Companies have the option to go further in their commitment to sustainability by choosing a PVDC-free liner, known as Stelvin Inside. Consumers around the world can now take advantage of the new improvements that have been made to the Stelvin screw cap, making it a more environmentally friendly version. These changes are part of Amcor Capsules’ Transparence program, a program focused on sustainability and continuous improvement that seeks to support the wine and spirits industry since its launch last July.

Yannick Magnon, general manager of Amcor Capsules, noted: “We pioneered the market in 1964 with the launch of the first screw cap for wine. Since then, Stelvin has been recognized and praised by winemakers around the world as the standard for quality and as one of the most sustainable closure solutions in the industry. We are always looking for the best for our customers, and we wanted to go above and beyond to help them achieve their own sustainability goals.”.

Amcor Capsules demonstrates its commitment to the environment by reducing the carbon footprint of the Stelvin product, using recycled content and taking measures to mitigate the environmental impact of its processes.
