Manta has been officially named the Tuna Capital of the World, in the country of Ecuador. Many people do not know that Manta concentrates the second largest tuna fleet in the world after Thailand, and is the most powerful port in Ecuador.

A year ago, the city of Guayaquil gave a great welcome to the Ecuadorian locality by announcing its name as the ‘Tuna Capital of the World’. This honor is crowned with the huge canned monument in a central rotunda and 2.5 million metric tons of tuna cut for cheese and canning. In this regard, the Ecuadorians now have 116 vessels with a trawling capacity of 93,000 tons.

With the backing of the CNP, “The Ecuadorian fleet’s hauling capacity is ample and therefore the most powerful,” according to the president of a guild that has 2,000 members, where the canning sector is so important. For Roberto Baroni, traveling to Manta represents a great human experience because of its natural beauty and the excellent relationship with the people.

The main processing plants are located in Guayaquil, Posorja and Manta, where approximately 70% of national production is held. Finally, Manta exports cans of tuna and frozen loins to countries such as the United States and Europe, where it is highly recognized for its excellence. With this work routine, the city and the Ecuadorian port will reach new quality standards and direct benefits for Ecuador’s foreign trade, as well as for its entire population.
