Torus Measurement Systems, a company focused on the development and production of systems for quality inspection and process control in the metal packaging industry, recently presented its inspection solutions for aerosols. These applications are widely used in the aerosol packaging industry for dimensional and destructive testing during production.
The Torus Z702 is an automatic aerosol can inspection device that has been designed to evaluate a variety of important dimensions to suit all types of aerosol manufacturing processes, including the production of monoblocks and two or three-part composite parts.
Unlike other vision-based technologies, a focused light source together with a high quality camera and a highly sensitive lens allows detailed images of the aerosol centerline to be obtained. This data is collected by Torus’ GaugeXplorer software, allowing features such as diameters, heights, slopes, depths, intersections and angles to be accurately measured to within +/- 0.030 mm.
On the other hand, the proven contact measurement technology currently in use features advanced high-precision transducers to achieve accurate measurements of internal diameters, overall heights, internal bead diameters, internal closure height, and bead flatness and parallelism characteristics. All this with an exceptional level of precision, with a minimum variation of +/- 0.030 mm.
In addition, the operator can access all inspection functions from various rotational positions, allowing him to adapt the radial measurements to the customer’s requirements. According to the Torus company, the Z702 offers a variety of advantages, such as, “We guarantee accurate, reliable and traceable measurement 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Measurement results are unaffected by any operator influence,” they added.
With the implementation of automation in the system, there has been an increase in the working hours required by employees. This technology allows tasks to be performed more efficiently and quickly, which has led to higher production demands and, consequently, to an increase in the workload. Despite the benefits that automation brings, it is important to find the right balance to ensure a good quality of life for workers.
The objective is to improve the level of compliance and increase the capacity to expand. In addition, this is intended to eliminate any type of operator bias, providing total confidence in the operator’s ability to control the process.
The Torus Modular concept was created to allow for more efficient future upgrades. Additional inspection modules for measuring characteristics such as weight and strength can be added seamlessly via the Torus upgrade option. In this way, there will be no complications in modifying these functionalities at any desired time.
