The world’s top sports teams – Arsenal, Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche – are teaming up in 2024 to launch the “Green Action League,” the largest fan-driven sustainability campaign ever seen in sports. This collaborative tournament invites fans of European soccer, American soccer, basketball and ice hockey to compete against each other to help their teams earn the title of “greenest fans.”
The tournament, sponsored by Ball Corporation and hosted on the Planet League platform, ran from Nov. 11 to Dec. 1, 2024 to inspire fans around the world to adopt more sustainable habits. Participants accumulated “green points” for engaging in sustainable activities.
“The Green Action League is about how small, simple actions can add up to generate a massive impact,” Said Tom Gribbin, founder of Planet League. “Fans don’t need to change their lives completely; simply recycling an aluminum can, opting for a meatless meal or picking up litter can add up to points and help their team lead in sustainability. We’re proud to partner with these incredible sports teams that show the world that, together, we can tackle climate change in a fun and accessible way.”
This sustainability competition is the first global partnership between Ball Corporation and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE), which includes four iconic teams in three markets: Denver, Los Angeles and London. The partnership was founded with a shared vision of promoting sustainability in sports and entertainment by strengthening aluminum recycling in stadiums, offering a more environmentally friendly experience and highlighting aluminum as a sustainable option for beverage packaging.
