The city of Santiago de Chile hosted Expo LatinPack 2022 for the second consecutive year. This fair has become the Latin American meeting point that brings together the national and international packaging industry and the entire value chain related to the world of packaging. The event took place from June 29 to July 1 at Espacio Riesco.
The theme chosen this year was ‘Creating a sustainable world’. During the three days of this international congress, the use of artificial intelligence and robotics in the development of containers and packaging with great speed and precision was highlighted, among other issues. Likewise, eco-design has established itself as a growing trend to transform the packaging market into a more sustainable industry.
The development of new materials, compounds and processes to increase the percentage of plastics recycling, recirculation and reuse of products is becoming a global trend, and were some of the main topics discussed.
“We are proud to see that the national packaging industry is prepared for the challenges of producing with the least environmental impact, promoting the circular economy and sustainable resource management considering eco-design and support for the implementation of the REP Law. Even more so when all productive industries in Chile necessarily use packaging in some link of its supply chain, logistics or sales, “said Pamela Pavez, president of the Center for Packaging of Chile (CENEM).
“Encouraging companies to innovate and invest in the development of new, more sustainable technologies responds to current environmental challenges and the awareness of citizens to contribute to curb climate change and build a more sustainable world for new generations. In this scenario, there is a huge opportunity for packaging to become a model of circular economy through redesign, reuse and technological innovation through the use of environmentally friendly materials, biodegradable and friendlier to the planet,” they say from the organization.
Innovation in the use of new raw materials and technological development in the creation of new compounds and materials that allow to increase the percentage of recycling and reuse of manufactured products, were also an important focus that stood out during all the days of the exhibition, promoting new business models under the eaves of the circular economy.
