La Rioja will be the headquarters of the National Center for Packaging Technology, which will be located in Calahorra. The program Activa Retos de la Industria del Envase y el Embalaje de La Rioja, will allow the packaging industry of La Rioja to solve its technological challenges with the support of emerging companies and startups from all over Spain.

The project will have an initial budget of 42 million euros, co-financed by the Government of Spain and the Government of La Rioja. Precisely, the National Center will be the starting point of the City of Packaging project, which aims to become a leading center for research, development and innovation that will encourage and boost the competitiveness of the packaging industry and its value chain in La Rioja.

Specifically, the new facilities will be located in the El Recuenco industrial estate in Calahorra, where the regional government has already reserved 94,054 square meters that will house the three areas of the center: the R&D&I Center, the Innovation Hub and the Industrialization and Prototyping Plant.

With a budget of 550,000 euros, Activa Retos de la Industria del Envase y el Embalaje de La Rioja is carried out within the framework of an agreement signed between the Government of La Rioja and the Escuela de Organización Industrial (EOI), dependent on the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. Of the total, the regional government contributes 240,000 euros and the EOI Foundation, 310,000 euros.

The National Center for Packaging Technologies will start working with the three-dimensional model that characterizes it, which combines innovation, development of solutions and application of these solutions to the market.
