The Gijón-based brand La Mar de Tazones has made the leap to the U.S. market with a limited edition of its spider crab preserves, in collaboration with the New York company Lata. The launch took place at the Summer Fancy Foods Show in New York, the largest gourmet event in the United States, held from June 29 to July 1.
The initiative includes two products: natural spider crab meat and premium spider crab meat, both in an exclusive run of 2,000 units with designs by illustrator Xavier Gallego. The cans are already part of Lata’s catalog, with distribution throughout the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as in Canada.
Lata, based in Brooklyn, promotes high-quality Spanish canned goods and has a community of more than a thousand subscribers to its monthly discovery box. According to Dimas Noval, co-founder of La Mar de Tazones, this alliance represents “a grand entrance” into the American market. The collaboration arose after a recommendation from chef Iván Feito, of the Oviedo restaurant Ca’Suso, and has been valued by Lata for its “exceptional quality and authenticity.”
