Hydro is a company that aims to increase recycling levels by 2025. This is one of the reasons why he committed to the initiative to use twice as much post-consumer scrap instead of other materials. This involves the utilization of scrap to reduce carbon emissions, in addition to primary aluminum.
In this regard, Eivind Kallevik, executive vice president of Hydro Aluminium Metal, said that “With this acquisition, Hydro and Alumetal will together become the leading integrated aluminum recycler in Europe. This will enable us to offer more recycled and low-carbon aluminum products based on post-consumer scrap, further strengthening our commitment to enable our customers to achieve their sustainability goals. Bringing Alumetal into the Hydro family will also contribute to increasing circularity in the aluminum value chain, fostering an increasingly circular economy in Europe.”
Due to the closing of the deal, Hydro will gain worldwide relevance in the collection of heavy aluminum waste, while Alumetal will become a key competitor for the market by signing with one of the largest producers of the material.
“The acquisition shows how extraordinary the efforts of the Alumetal team have been over the past 20 years, it demonstrates our important journey of intensive growth and development within our organization. I am very proud of our employees and we look forward to an even more exciting future together with Hydro.”Agnieszka Drzyżdżyk, president and CEO of Alumetal, detailed.
Finally, Hydro wants to maintain its active involvement to support Alumetal with improved performance and safety as the company makes further progress. This will be an elemental part of the Hydro family, however, Alumetal will remain an independent company in the Hydro family and will continue to work with its current business, organizational and operating model, ensuring that Alumetal’s successful track record continues under new ownership.
