Hydro and shipping company Wilson ASA have launched the “Wilson Eyde”, an innovative cargo vessel that uses wind-assisted propulsion and artificial intelligence to optimize fuel consumption. This vessel will replace the older ships that transported pitch—an essential material for aluminum production—to Hydro’s plants in Norway.
The new system not only improves logistical efficiency but also contributes to Hydro’s sustainability goals, which aim to reduce emissions in its supply chain by 30% by 2030. With increased cargo capacity and advanced technology, the “Wilson Eyde” represents an important step towards greener logistics.
The ship pays tribute to Sam Eyde, founder of Hydro, and symbolizes the evolution of Norwegian industry from its hydroelectric origins to today’s green innovation. The “Wilson Eyde’s” first voyage to Hydro’s facilities in Årdal took place on April 15
