HEINZ SELLS OUT ITS CANNED CHRISTMAS DINNER WITHIN HOURS
It has been a resounding sales success. The Heinz company has released a canned soup for Christmas dinner, complete with turkey and all the trimmings, but the limited edition can sold out within hours of its release.
The Christmas Dinner Big Soup, priced at £1.50, contains chunks of turkey, suckling pig, Brussels sprouts, stuffing balls and potatoes, with gravy and cranberry sauce. The brand has marketed only 500 cans of this seasonal soup but does not rule out bringing to market a larger number next year.
A surprising demand that comes just as farming and meat industry bosses warned last week that there could be a shortage of UK-produced turkeys for Christmas.
Graeme Dear, chairman of the British Poultry Council, told the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs that %22there is likely to be a shortage of the traditional Christmas bird and the industry may have to import it from Europe%22. Anke von Hanstein, brand manager for Heinz Soups was pleased that %22it’s made for those who love festive flavours and tastes perfect with a slice of crusty bread. And if the lucky few who have managed to get their hands on it love it as much as we do, Heinz Christmas Dinner Big Soup could be back next year, bigger and better. Keep an eye on this space.
According to the survey commissioned by Heinz, 36 percent of those who celebrate Christmas prefer the traditional dinner to any other meal. And nearly 42 percent of British adults surveyed said they would eat it more often if it didn’t take so long to cook, and 36 percent would eat it more if it wasn’t so expensive.
