Germany’s Gränges Finspång has just announced that it has successfully achieved Gränges’ first certification against the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s Chain of Custody Standard. This is an important milestone in the company’s ambitious sustainability agenda and its commitment to developing sustainable aluminium products and solutions.

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard defines a set of requirements for the creation of a responsible supply chain for aluminium. It forms the basis for the sale of ASI-certified aluminium, which guarantees that Gränges products are responsibly sourced and produced throughout the entire supply chain, from the extraction of raw materials to the finished product.

Along with the ASI CoC Standard certification, Gränges Finspång also achieved an ASI Performance Standard certification, upgraded from an interim status due to the COVID-19 situation. The Gränges production site in Shanghai was certified according to the ASI Performance Standard in 2019, and the company aims to certify all production sites according to ASI sustainability certifications by 2025.

Fredrik Spens, managing director of Gränges Finspång says, “We can now offer customers verified sustainability credentials in the form of both product carbon footprint certificates and ASI certified aluminium that demonstrates that our products are responsibly sourced and produced. This reassures our customers and other business partners that we are firmly committed to meeting their growing sustainability requirements and the demand for sustainable aluminium”.

In this regard Jörgen Rosengren, President and CEO reiterates that “ASI is an important industry initiative that enables Gränges to promote and drive responsible and sustainable practices along the aluminium value chain. The certification enables our customers and other business partners to support Gränges’ development of sustainable aluminium products and solutions that have a low climate impact, are circular and resource efficient, as well as responsibly sourced and produced”.
