GME Recycling builds Africa’s first fully automated aluminum recycling plant to capitalize on an untapped $2.5 billion market.

GME Recycling, a leading Italian company in the design and construction of aluminum recycling plants, has located this scrap recycling plant in Nigeria, investing 10 million euros in construction and 6 million euros in technologies. The plant, equipped with advanced technologies, is the epitome of innovation, safety, recovery and sustainability, ensuring the production of high quality aluminum scrap in Africa.

Nigeria’s waste recycling market has an untapped potential value of $2.5 billion. In Lagos, only 20% of the 13 million tons of waste per year is properly collected. This gap has inspired GME Recycling to develop this plant to promote a circular economy.

The new recycling plant is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, including “MAX1700” hammer mills and the “VENTIDUDENTI” shredder. It also features advanced eddy current systems and X-ray machinery, which together enable the plant to remove contaminants from post-consumer aluminum products and prepare them for recycling.

In addition, sensor machines installed in the plant divide heavy metals by color and a dry sole furnace allows the treatment of specific types of more complex scrap, such as engine blocks.
