For some time, the Guardia Civil had noticed that small businesses in certain areas of Terres de l’Ebre were selling cans of soft drinks of a famous brand (Coca-Cola), which were only labeled in German. This was against product marking and labeling regulations.
After conducting several investigations, the agents determined that the cans were being sold by a single distribution company located in Amposta.
Last April 9, members of the Civil Guard of Tortosa carried out an inspection of the labeling of the products that this company was selling in its industrial warehouse.
Inside the place, they discovered a large number of pallets filled with soft drink cans of a well-known brand. All cans were labeled in German and authorized languages such as Spanish or Catalan were not used.
The product was ready to be sold and used by consumers, but was temporarily held. The corresponding complaint was sent to the Catalan Consumer Agency for follow-up.
According to the Catalan Consumer Law, any labeling in a language other than the approved language is against the rules governing the marking, labeling and packaging of products intended for sale. This goes against the right of consumers to have accurate information about the products they purchase.
The Guardia Civil of Tortosa continues to make efforts to find other deliveries of products that may violate consumer protection regulations, or any other regulations on the subject.
