The German aluminum industry continues to face significant challenges. In the first quarter of 2025, production remained at low levels without showing clear signs of recovery. According to Aluminium Deutschland, although aluminum recycling has grown by 3% compared to the previous quarter, other segments are experiencing difficulties. For example, the production of semi-finished aluminum products and extrusions experienced a 2% decline.

Additionally, Aluminium Deutschland warns about recent U.S. tariffs on primary aluminum and products with high aluminum content, while aluminum scrap is not subject to these taxes. This situation has led to an increase in demand and prices for scrap in Germany and Europe, creating local shortages. The association cautions that without measures from the European Union to control scrap exports, the circular economy and competitiveness of European companies could be at risk.
