Liberty Steel in Georgetown just announced plans to reopen after closing last year due to COVID-19. The date chosen will be February 2022.

However, factory workers are evaluating options for a “sustainable restart” before that date.

According to Liberty’s national CEO Greg Jones, “the outlook for U.S. infrastructure demand and steel production margins is excellent, and with steel imports now at historic lows, domestic manufacturers will be able to operate profitably.” The plant is expected to resume operations shortly, allowing 65 employees to return to their former jobs in anticipation of increased demand.
