Fonio Rising Pale Ale is the new beverage that will be part of the Brooklyn Brewery brand, following last year’s successful experimental launch. In fact, it was named Product of the Year by Brewbound. It is an easy-drinking beer featuring fonio – a weather-resistant ancient grain – that will be available year-round to beer lovers across the country.
Fonio Rising Pale Ale is the result of years of experimentation by award-winning brewmaster Garrett Oliver. Fonio, known as the “Seed of the Universe, has been a staple food in West Africa for more than 5,000 years. It grows without the need for fertilizers, chemicals or irrigation, making it an ideal crop for sustainable agriculture and an important source of income for smallholder farmers, especially women.
Fonio Rising Pale Ale is brewed with a blend of two-row pale malt, fonio and Strata and Citra hops. It is a pale ale with a fruity passion fruit and citrus flavor, perfect for any occasion, with a refreshing finish that pairs wonderfully with grilled seafood, spicy dishes and fish tacos.
The beer is partnering with the African Chop House cultural collective to organize events during 2025 and with designer Chalé, who will launch an exclusive merchandising collection of T-shirts, caps and other accessories with vibrant and bold designs.
