Every Can Counts, a non-profit organization, announced that the United Arab Emirates joined the global community as the second non-European nation to do so after Brazil in 2021. This action demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to the cause and its interest in strengthening the organization’s global community.
The upcoming launch of Every Can Counts UAE, which will take place during COP28 in Dubai, will include several initiatives focused on educating about the environment and promoting behavioral changes. The organization will feature the ECC Pixel Can and recycling ambassadors to raise awareness of the relevance of beverage can recycling as an important measure to address the challenge of climate change.
During COP28 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched the Every Can Counts program, which seeks to promote the recycling of aluminum cans. This initiative is already present in several countries and its objective is to raise awareness and increase recycling rates of this material. The event featured an impressive display called ‘PixelCan’, made from more than 2,000 recycled beverage cans.
The UNFCCC has set several key objectives for COP28, which is the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. These include concrete measures and actions to address climate change and its impacts, as well as strengthening international cooperation and promoting the implementation of measures at the national level. By 2030, countries are expected to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy sources and greatly reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
It is believed that there will be a transformation in climate finance, with a demand that developed countries fulfill their previous pledges on climate finance and work on a new agreement to provide more funds to developing countries.
In addition, countries are urged to place people, nature, lives and livelihoods at the center of their climate actions. It is important that their welfare and livelihoods are prioritized in all decisions related to climate change.
The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) aims to be the most inclusive so far, involving diverse stakeholders. The main purpose of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) is to review progress worldwide in the fight to keep global warming within the limit of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
Finally, this target was established by 195 countries in the Paris Agreement in 2015 and is considered essential to address climate change. These targets demonstrate the importance of the environmental crisis and the need for joint global action to address it.
