For the fourth consecutive year, the European environmental awareness program ‘Every Can Counts’ , which promotes the recycling of beverage cans, launched its ‘Your Can to Yellow’ campaign to raise awareness of can recycling on beaches and promote sustainable and clean tourism.

The campaign kicked off on the coasts of Tenerife during the months of July and August. Environmental educators will visit the beaches of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, A Coruña and Cadiz, which have been chosen this year for the campaign. The objective is none other than to raise awareness of the importance of recycling beverage cans to fight climate change. In addition, they will conduct surveys of bathers to learn about their recycling habits on the beach, in order to help collaborating municipalities improve waste management in public spaces.

The director of ‘Every Can Counts’ in Spain, Pablo García, explained that their objective is to “to recycle every can consumed on the beach. Moreover, in just 60 days they can be back in the supermarket in the form of a new can”.

“We want to recycle every can consumed on the beach. Something that we guarantee 100% if we deposit it in the yellow container. In addition, depositing cans in the yellow container helps us save 95% of energy compared to manufacturing a can from virgin material”,
added Pablo Garcia, director of Every Can Counts in Spain.
In 2019, Every Can Counts conducted a pilot recycling awareness campaign in Tenerife for the first time. After the success of the initiative and the good reception of neighbors and tourists, it was replicated in other regions such as the Valencian Community, Galicia, Andalusia and the Balearic Islands.
