Every Can Counts, the non-profit organization that works to encourage and empower people to recycle their beverage cans, announced this year’s new winners of its UK recycling awards.
Specifically, Crewe Clean Team, Bodega 51 Bar and Haileybury School were recognized for their sustainability efforts and ongoing commitment to recycling. Crewe Clean Team has 200 members who are responsible for community litter collection throughout Crewe and the surrounding area. It also collects aluminum containers from local businesses, including aluminum foil from a salon, aluminum foil trays from take-out food and empty beverage cans from local pubs. Over the last decade, they have recycled more than 200,000 beverage cans.
Bodega 51, on the other hand, recycled every can consumed on site since it opened in May 2022. This has amounted to over 25,000 cans being recycled and also raises £200 for the mental health charity, Mind, by selling the cans to a local scrap metal business.
Finally, Haileybury School in Hertford also received a Green Can Award for its recycling initiative. Since Every Can Counts launched the awards program in 2014, a total of 28 schools, community groups and other organizations have been honored.
David McDonald, Chairman of Crewe Clean Team, noted that, “Over two hundred volunteers make up Crewe Clean Team, so it really is a joint effort and we are all delighted with the award. Everyone is very proud of what we have achieved to date, but there is always more work to be done and we look forward to welcoming new faces.”
