Every Can Counts is celebrating its International Beverage Can Recycling and Recyclability Tour. 16 countries will receive art installations of endangered animals.

Every Can Counts, a leading non-profit recycling organization adds that the dynamic awareness campaign, launched to celebrate World Environment Day, aims to highlight the importance of beverage can recycling in safeguarding valuable resources and mitigating climate change.

Recycling just one ton of aluminum can save 9 tons of CO2 emissions and preserve 4 tons of bauxite, the essential raw material for aluminum production, they say. Starting on June 5, with activities that will run until June 10, this campaign will take place in 16 cities in Europe, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates.

Dedicated recycling ambassadors, embodying the program’s mission to promote the recycling of beverage cans consumed outside the home, will carry their backpacks and tour bustling cities, urban parks, popular beaches and festivals, inviting people to recycle their empty cans while on the go. The organization urges everyone to become #GenerationRestoration.

The International Recycle Tour 2024 also makes a bold visual statement with its PixelCan installations. Created from more than 2,000 aluminum cans, these artworks highlight four iconic animals – polar bear, tiger, sea turtle and chimpanzee – that are endangered or vulnerable due to ecosystem degradation caused by human activities. Each participating city will showcase one of these animals at risk, encouraging people to join the global restoration movement and share their photos on social media. Countries participating in the activities include Belgium, Brazil, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

Working towards 100% beverage can recycling in 21 countries around the world, Every Can Counts is working to keep global warming below 2°C and avoid its most damaging effects. To do so, we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by almost half by 2030. According to the United Nations, halting and reversing land and ocean degradation can prevent the loss of 1 million endangered species. Restoring just 15 percent of ecosystems in priority areas can reduce extinctions by 60 percent through habitat enhancement.

This urgent need to decarbonize and reduce humanity’s environmental footprint aligns perfectly with the mission of Every Can Counts. The program operates in 21 countries, joining forces with beverage brands, waste management companies, event organizers and local authorities to empower people to make a difference through simple actions such as recycling beverage cans.

In 2023 alone, Every Can Counts reached 183.5 million people worldwide, helping to recycle more than 55 million beverage cans through event activations and partnerships.. “Our vision is to achieve 100% global recycling of beverage cans. Every recycled can can be back on the shelf in 60 days, and campaigns like the International Recycling Tour bring us one step closer to this vision, demonstrating the power of collective action to create a truly circular economy for the benefit of both people and nature.” says David Van Heuverswyn, Director of Every Can Counts Global.
