The European Commission has approved the acquisition of the Eviosys group by the American Sonoco Products Company within the EU competition laws. The European institution ensures that the activity of the buyer does not compete with the business of the acquired company, dedicated to the production of metal packaging for food and industry.
Sonoco thus acquires the leading manufacturer of metal canning containers, Eviosys Embalajes España, and a leading manufacturer of closures, Eviosys Packaging Closures Spain.
Eviosys has factories in La Rioja, Galicia, Badajoz, Murcia, Astuiras, Osuna and Portugal. Last year 2023 recorded sales of 619.25 M€, compared to 684.09 M€ obtained in 2022, the value of its exports amounts to 313.08 M€ and its workforce is made up of 1,831 employees.
Eviosys Packaging Closures Spain has a factory in Dos Hermanas (Seville) and is in the process of reconverting, after At the beginning of this year, made public its interest in transforming the center it managed into a logistics facility to serve the public. This company achieved sales of €25.04 million in 2023 (€29.24 million a year earlier) with 71 employees on the payroll.
Lastly, Sonoco’s presence in Spain consists of the following companies Papertech, with facilities in Tudela (Navarra) and Balsareny (Barcelona), specialized in the production of gray and brown cardboard, with a production capacity of 60,000 t per year of cardboard for tubes and mandrels, which reached in 2023 a revenue of 27.74 M€ (42.27 M€ a year earlier), with 77 employees; Sonoco Pina, in Pina de Ebro (Zaragoza), engaged in the manufacture of cardboard tubes and mandrels, with revenues in 2022, the last known fiscal year, of 19.93 M (15.10 M in 2021), with a workforce of 45 employees; y Sonoco Iberia, in Balsareny, producer of cylindrical cardboard packaging (about 20 M ud./year), which ended 2022 with sales of 11.14 M € (10.08 M in 2021) and a productive force of 49 employees.
