The beer brand Estrella Galicia launches No Pack. The novelty of this new packaging is that it eliminates the cardboard from its packs and replaces it with glue dots that serve as a union between the cans. The company also points out that the new format will reduce the carbon footprint of each of its six-packs by 40%.
The industry began to notice that its products were becoming more and more polluting due to packaging and is experimenting with more sustainable options. One of the options is to replace the traditional plastic rings with cardboard systems, to dispense with labels or make them compostable, or to develop closure formulas that favor recycling.
The company, owned by Hijos de Rivera, indicated that this is part of its “non-conformism in the generation of an ever-increasing positive impact” and its desire to advance in the minimization of waste and carbon footprint. In this regard, Estrella Galicia assures that the new format will reduce the carbon footprint of each of its six-packs by 40%.
The No Pack design has been implemented by KHS, a company specialized in the manufacture of this type of packaging in packs of both cans and RPET bottles. It will land on the shelves progressively and, initially, will affect the 6×25 cl and 6×33 cl can packs of Estrella Galicia Especial, although the company will later extend it to Estrella Galicia 0.0, 1906 Reserva Especial and Red Vintage.
Apart from No Pack, the brewer also announced other changes to reduce waste, such as replacing the paper covering the 12- and 24-packs with 100% recyclable paper made from recyclable material. Thanks to this measure, all secondary plastic will be eliminated from all its can formats.
