EGA Spectro Alloys has inaugurated a new plant in Rosemount, Minnesota.
The company has invested $71 million in this 8,400 m² facility.
The new plant produces recycled aluminum billets that are more than seven meters long. With this expansion, EGA Spectro becomes one of the 40 plants in the country with this capacity.
Most of the aluminum in the U.S. is imported and is now subject to a 50% tariff, imposed by Donald Trump in June. The expansion will allow the company to launch its first new product line in 53 years. The company will increase its purchase of industrial metal scrap.
Spectro also becomes a new buyer of recycled beverage cans in Minnesota. Luke Palen, president of the company, says that there is great demand and that they are well positioned. This aluminum will be used in sectors such as automotive, aviation, food, and energy.
The original Spectro plant employs 150 people and is expected to hire another 50 workers. That facility produces 13 kg ingots.
Emirates Global Aluminum, based in the United Arab Emirates, owns the majority of Spectro Alloys. This new billet line will increase business by 50%.
The plant is located in a rapidly developing area along County Road 42. Adam Kienberger, Rosemount’s director of urban development, has highlighted the economic impact of the investment throughout the area.
