The Region of Murcia and Ecoembes have renewed their current agreement to promote selective collection. Among the main objectives of this agreement are the promotion of selective packaging collection systems, the implementation of information and environmental awareness campaigns and the establishment of appropriate mechanisms to guarantee the recycling of waste.
The renewal of this agreement, valid for one year, was signed between the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment of the Region of Murcia, Antonio Luego, and Óscar Martín, CEO of Ecoembes. This initiative will allow the citizens of the Region of Murcia to continue to increase the contribution in the yellow and blue containers available in the municipalities.
The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, Antonio Luengo, celebrated the renewal of the collaboration with Ecoembes, “which will allow us to continue advancing in the processes of waste collection and treatment, promoting the participation of local authorities in the Integrated Management Systems and advancing in the awareness and awareness of society, who undoubtedly must be our great ally if we want to continue advancing in caring for the environment”.
“Together we must continue to take steps to abandon the old linear model of use and throw away and move towards a more circular one, based on the three “R’s” – reduce, reuse and recycle, and without a doubt, the collaboration of the government and the municipalities of Murcia, reflected in this agreement, is essential to make this possible,” said Oscar Martin, CEO of Ecoembes.
In addition, during the selective collection process, packaging from the yellow container is transported to sorting plants, where it is sorted by material and then delivered to recyclers who convert it into new raw material for the manufacture of different products, such as textiles (fleece linings), construction material (pipes and carpets), urban furniture (benches and bollards) or new packaging, among others.
