The reverse recycling system is taking its first steps in Colombia and Mexico with the company Ecobot. Ecobot are reverse vending machines (RVM), located in universities, supermarkets and shopping malls. In them, different types of containers, including cans, are deposited in exchange for discount coupons for restaurants, stores, apps and associated brands. Ecobot can already be found in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena de Indias, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Mexico. Founder Lina Aramburo has assured that so far they have collected and ensured that more than 6.7 million containers reach processing plants, donating more than half of the recycling to recyclers.
He also added that: “Ecobot works as a green marketing medium for brands and companies looking to generate points of contact with their consumers and audiences in a different way, highlighting their commitment to sustainability, without leaving aside the business objectives in terms of brand positioning and customer conversion, which we achieve with the discount coupons we deliver to our users”.
