Entrepreneur and EasyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou has donated 730,000 canned goods to the French charity Les Restos du Coeur, with the aim of providing food aid for one year to people in vulnerable situations.
Haji-Ioannou explained that his intention was to “help in a different way,” a decision that arose after several meetings with representatives of the organization in the south of France. The association emphasized that the donated food is of “the same quality as products sold in supermarkets.”
The businessman plans to repeat this initiative next year. After the delivery, he stated that he felt “proud” to collaborate with the entity. This is not Haji-Ioannou’s first philanthropic action; in 2011, he created the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation to support local causes in countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Monaco, Greece, and Cyprus.
In addition to food aid, the foundation has made other contributions, including a donation of 100,000 euros to the Chapel of the Madone in Menton, France.
