In 2023, East Devon District Council shared that it managed to collect an amount of 473 tons of steel cans. According to a social media post, the council reported that 473 tons of household steel cans were collected and recycled in East Devon in 2023.

“Please place all your steel cans in your recycling bag along with the plastic and aluminum items we collect from the curb. The cans are separated from the mix of materials by magnets at our materials recycling facility and sent to foundries in England or Wales to be melted down into raw steel ready to be made into new products.”he said.

The bag intended for recycling in your home should only be used to deposit steel cans, while other objects made with this material should be taken to a specialized recycling center to be processed correctly. “There is no limit to how many times your cans can be recycled: the metal is recycled forever.”
East Devon District Council was recently ranked as the sixth best performing local authority for sorting household waste in England.
