Dong-A Otsuka and Novelis have established a strategic alliance that incorporates QR codes on the packaging of THE Masinda products. These cans, made with high-recycled-content aluminum sheets at Novelis’ plant in Yeongju, underscore the commitment to sustainability, as aluminum recycling saves up to 95% of energy and significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to primary production from bauxite.
The QR codes implemented on the packaging will offer consumers direct access to key information about the high recyclability of aluminum cans, the use of materials with high recycled content in their production, and the sustainable value of the water contained in these cans.
As part of this collaboration, Novelis will actively participate in events dedicated to sustainability, promote the use of aluminum packaging, and develop campaigns that highlight the importance of resource recycling and the circular benefits of aluminum. These initiatives are part of Novelis’ “3×30 Vision” strategy, aimed at promoting a more sustainable future.
Park Chul-ho, President and CEO of Dong-A Otsuka, said: “We are very pleased to collaborate with Novelis, a world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, on this significant project that coincides with our official sponsorship of APEC. With this agreement, we hope to effectively convey the message about resource recycling and sustainability that THE Masinda represents to a wider audience.”
This collaboration is part of a broader sustainability campaign that seeks to reduce the use of plastic and highlight the benefits of aluminum recyclability. Both companies will spread this message both in Korea and internationally, using THE Masinda as a platform to promote a more circular and resource-efficient society.
Dong-A Otsuka launched THE Masinda, its canned water, in September last year, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable management focused on environmental protection and resource conservation through the use of highly recyclable aluminum cans. The company will provide its beverages, including THE Masinda, for a series of ministerial events, beginning with the Third Senior Officials Meeting (SOM 3) and its related sessions.
