Danish brewer Carlsberg announced the appointment of João Abecasis as the new executive vice president of its Asian business. The appointment will be effective September 1 at the company’s Hong Kong headquarters.

The executive has extensive experience, having joined the company in 2011 and served in various roles, including CCO and CEO of Super Bock Portugal. He also served as vice president of challenging markets in the WE region, interim general manager of Carlsberg Denmark and general manager of Kronenbourg, France. He currently serves as commercial director of Carlsberg. He assumed the position in 2019 and has been instrumental in leading the brand’s commercial strategy.

In addition, the Portuguese contributed to the group’s SAIL’27 strategy, which lists Asia as an important area and a major factor in achieving the company’s future objectives. SAIL’27 is Carlsberg’s five-year strategy built around the company’s vision of brewing beer for a better today and tomorrow, as well as establishing itself as a category leader in all markets in which it operates.

Both the group’s executive vice president of strategy, Søren Brinck, and the group’s chief executive officer set what would be his new role because the Danish brewer had reported second-quarter revenues below expectations. The company’s earnings were affected by higher commodity and energy prices despite recoveries in bar and restaurant sales.

Companies like Carlsberg that have been able to grow in recent years stuck to their full-year guidance after they raised their organic earnings forecast to a high single-digit percentage growth.
