Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche S.p.A., a leader in steel production, and newcleo SA, an innovator in nuclear energy, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate newcleo’s Lead Cooled Fast Reactors (LFRs) with Danieli’s green steel technology. The goal is to generate electricity and high-temperature heat using LFRs to power green steel production processes. This collaboration will contribute to the steel industry by offering clean and affordable energy, aligning with Europe’s decarbonization initiatives.

It will also explore the production of Green Hydrogen and energy solutions along the steel value chain. In addition, the Italian government has reopened the debate on nuclear power, opening up new opportunities for access to clean energy in Europe.
