DAMM has once again taken advantage of the summer season to install more than 400 aluminum compacting machines on the Mediterranean coast.

Each compacting machine holds 2,000 aluminum cans, which are accumulated in sacks for easy transfer to the recycling plant. Once at the recycling plant, the aluminum from which the cans are made – which is 100% recyclable – is cleaned and melted, creating aluminum sheets suitable for a new use, thus closing the material’s circular cycle. Thanks to this process, the large number of cans recycled annually makes it possible to counteract the pollution generated by an exhaust pipe that is in operation for almost 14,000 hours.

“As a company adhered to the United Nations Global Compact, we work in compliance with SDG 12 in order to promote sustainable consumption and production models through projects that promote the reduction, recycling and reuse of raw materials. We are very proud to see that our annual can recycling campaign continues to grow year after year and that more and more users are integrating such a simple gesture as recycling into their daily lives. Every small gesture counts and together we can make a difference in building a more sustainable future,” said Juan Antonio López Abadía, Damm’s Director of Energy and Environmental Optimization.

In 1994 Damm launched a pioneering initiative in the sector with a primary objective: raise awareness and educate about the importance of recycling aluminum cans. 29 years later, through the installation of can compacting machines near beach areas, Damm continues to provide the population with a simple and effective system for recycling the cans consumed, which allows them to be recycled every summer. more than half a million cans and that during the last five years alone has made it possible for torecover 29 tons of these containers.
