Daisy Goddard-Dickinson, a sixth grader at St Nicholas CofE Primary School near Ripon, has won first place in a national competition organized by the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation (Alupro).

Organized as part of the ‘Bin-fluencers’ education program, aimed at Key Stage 3 pupils to improve recycling awareness, the competition invited students from across the UK to come up with an innovative design for a recycling garbage can that would encourage their peers to think twice before throwing their garbage away.

Daisy’s prize will include seeing her winning design captured in a new recycling garbage can, as well as taking home an iPad. Her classmates will also enjoy a £250 voucher to spend on books, art supplies and other supplies.

Tom Giddings, CEO of Alupro has ensured that this program is realized: “With the ambition to increase national recycling rates, educating the next generation is a really important task. Bin-fluencers is just one of many campaigns we run to improve awareness and understanding in a fun and creative way. It seems to have been a great success with both staff and students.”
