Cybersecurity Incident at Ardagh Group

Ardagh Group SA recently announced that it experienced a cyber security incident in May which has caused some incidents and delays as it had to appeal in response to the proactive shutdown of certain IT systems and applications.

“Production at all of the group’s metal beverage packaging and glass packaging facilities has continued to operate during this period. While products have continued to be shipped to customers, we have experienced some delays as a result of this incident. Certain other processes, including some supply chain operations, have been affected and alternative solutions, including manual solutions, have been implemented to enable us to continue to respond to our customers’ needs,” the group said in the press release.

Ardagh said the disruption is likely to lead to some postponement or loss of revenue and higher costs in some areas of their business, but they are trying to minimise the impact on customers and suppliers.

The statement concludes that “current indications are that it will not affect our 2021 guidance for the group. We do not expect the incident to have any effect on the financial results or position of Ardagh Metal Packaging, which will receive compensation on Ardagh Group SA’s usual terms”.

Ardagh Group is a global metal and glass packaging supplier group led by Irishman Paul Coulson, operating 57 metal and glass production facilities in 12 countries, employing over 16,000 people, with sales of approximately $7 billion. Ardagh also has a 42% stake in Trivium Packaging, a leading supplier of sustainable metal packaging to the food, specialty and personal care markets.
