Crown Holdings continues to take firm steps in its commitment to sustainability, moving closer to the goals established in its ambitious Twehntyby30 program. According to the latest data published in its sustainability report “Built to Last”, the company has made significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG. Greenhouse Gas emissions) emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy in its operations.

Key objectives include:

  • 50% reduction in absolute GHG emissions in its direct operations (scope 1 and 2). To date, Crown has achieved a 26% decrease, representing 51% of the way to its goal.
  • 16% decrease in indirect emissions from its supply chain (scope 3). This goal has already been 100% fulfilled, consolidating an absolute reduction of 16%.
  • Increase in the use of renewable electricity, with a target of 75% by 2030 and 100% by 2040. Currently, the company uses 37% renewable energy, advancing 49% towards its goal.
  • 10% reduction in emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) per unit of product. This goal has also been fully achieved, with a 10% absolute reduction.

The report reflects Crown’s progress in its ambitious Twentyby30 program, which includes 20 concrete goals for 2030, including the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, water conservation, and waste reduction. In addition, the company has improved key aspects such as workplace safety, employee engagement, and responsible sourcing of materials.

Timothy Donahue, president and CEO of Crown, has stated that sustainability not only implies meeting environmental objectives, “but also building a resilient organization capable of adapting to future challenges, while always maintaining transparency with its stakeholders”.

Halfway through the Twentyby30 trajectory, Crown highlights relevant achievements, especially in the promotion of recycling. The company has sponsored the Global Aluminum Packaging Sustainability Summit and has actively participated in Climate Week in New York, with the goal of increasing the recycling rate of beverage cans.

John M. Rost, Senior Vice President of Technology and Sustainability, explains that Crown’s strategy goes beyond regulatory compliance, generating value for both the company and the communities where it operates.
