Crown Holdings, Inc. has achieved compliance with the ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) certification in production facilities located in Tocancipá, Colombia under the name Crown Colombiana S.A. This certification is awarded to those companies that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility in their production processes.

The facility in question is the only one producing aluminum can bodies for the beverage industry. In addition, it became the first facility in the country to obtain ASI Certification.

Crown’s actions in countries such as Brazil, Mexico and Thailand have previously been recognized for meeting ASI’s performance standards. This certification program, which seeks to promote sustainability in the aluminum industry, was created after a rigorous process that included the participation of various stakeholders. This initiative is unique in its kind and focuses on establishing voluntary standards for the entire aluminum value chain. The 2017 version of the ASI V2 Performance Standard aims to define environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the objective of addressing sustainability issues in the aluminum value chain. It establishes 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labor rights, indigenous peoples’ rights and greenhouse gas emissions.

According to John Rost, who serves as Crown’s vice president of Global Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs, the company has made it a goal to fully comply with its suppliers in terms of its sourcing policies. “As part of our Twentyby30 program, we maintain targets to ensure 100% supplier compliance with sourcing policies, as well as to engage with our partners both upstream and downstream around various sustainability issues.” said the executive.

“We are proud to see that our teams around the world are helping to make progress towards these goals and maintain our standards, as well as building on the strong sustainability credentials of metal packaging and working to reduce our overall carbon footprint.” he added.
Finally, Juan Carlos Trujillo, Crown’s president for Colombia, added: “We are dedicated to serving as a strong corporate steward at all stages of our value chain, and materials sourcing is a fundamental part of that commitment. Our latest ASI Performance Standards Certification in Colombia reflects our continued efforts to be diligent within our procurement not only within South America, but also across our global organization.”
