Covanta Holding Corporation, a global leader in sustainable energy and waste solutions, has announced the $5.3 billion acquisition by EQT Infrastructure V. With this move, the American company confirms its strategy to become the most sustainable provider of waste solutions.
Covanta has also announced the appointment of Azeez Mohammed as president and CEO. Mohammed will work closely with the entire Covanta team, EQT, and the company’s new Board of Directors to embark on a bold program to generate compelling value for all stakeholders in an increasingly circular economy.
Covanta is a global leader in providing sustainable waste and energy solutions. Waste-to-Energy is a vital part of the waste disposal value chain, offering a much more sustainable alternative to landfilled waste for communities and businesses, with a significantly smaller real estate footprint per ton removed compared to traditional landfills.
“I am excited to lead Covanta during this time of great transformation,” says Azeez Mohammed, president and CEO of Covanta. “Covanta has been a pillar in the industry due to its talented team with extensive experience in mastering the sustainable waste disposal space, a strong portfolio of sustainable carbon-negative waste-to-energy assets, and a growth platform in Covanta Environmental Solutions that provides premium disposal and recycling solutions for broader industrial waste. Coupled with society’s growing drive towards decarbonization and the search for circular alternatives for waste management, this creates a compelling value creation story,” he adds.
