Costco recalls 2.7 million coffee cans due to risk of containing metal parts inside them

Kirkland Signature Colombian Cold Brew coffee belonging to Berner Food Inc. was withdrawn from the market due to the risk of containing metallic residues inside the metal containers. Specifically, the Costco supermarket chain announced the recall of 2.7 million coffee cans due to the risk of containing metal parts inside.

Following the FDA’s notification, Illinois-based Berner Food Inc. recalled one of its most successful products: Kirkland Signature brand Colombian Cold Brew coffee sold through Costco.

In addition, TBerner Foods explained that it removed the coffee from the shelves due to the potential risk of foreign material in the cans. Specifically, the company says a metal pin may have entered the beverage.

“No injuries have been reported due to this issue and the potential risk is minimal, however, consumer safety is of paramount importance to us,” Berner Foods said. On the other hand, the manufacturer reported the possibility that among the 3.4 million cans made, there are three with a defect.

The company also advised customers who purchased the affected products not to drink the coffee and to return it to their nearest Costco store for a refund.

The FDA has warned about the presence of contaminated products that are present in 12-ounce aluminum cans. This is inside boxes that have 12 units each, and according to the notice have been distributed among Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Texas, Utah and Washington.
