Tasting an anchovy is an art. This year, the Fontecilla factory in Santoña has won the award for the Best Anchovy of 2022, winning the tasting-competition organized annually by the Cantabrian Anchovy Guild at the Anchovy and Canned Food Fair in Santoña, which this year celebrates its twenty-first edition.

The winner, José Mari Ruiz de Azua has shown his satisfaction for the triumph of Conservas Fontecilla, which has been chosen as the best anchovy of the 2022 Fair.

The XXII Anchovy and Canned Food Fair in Santoña is considered one of the best gastronomic events in Spain. Tourists and visitors are offered the excellence of quality anchovy fillets. It is one of the greatest gastronomic values of Cantabria: the anchovy, a product elaborated in a traditional way and with the best raw materials.

They are undoubtedly an excellent showcase and meeting point for anchovy producers and canners, who offer their products to all attendees through various activities, in addition to the exhibition and sale. This exhibition is also a forum for debate in which the main companies, organizations and institutions involved in the canning activity in Cantabria meet.
