A rather demanding public is looking for a different alternative to traditional cider, a version with less calories and sugar. And this has been reflected in Danish consumers now buying new products with less sugar and calories. This explains the increase in healthier products such as soft drinks and sugar-free beer. However, there is still no reduced-calorie version of cider.
That’s why Carlsberg Denmark has introduced its innovative version of original Somersby apple cider. The new variety, called Somersby Apple Lite, reduces the caloric content by 52%.
Allan Aagaard Jensen, Somersby’s brand manager in Denmark, said that “Somersby Apple Lite is a refreshing cider with a smooth sweetness complemented by fruity apple notes, similar in many ways to our existing apple cider, but with half the calories and a less sweet flavor profile.”
“For several years, there has been a great demand for light, low-calorie products, and combined with the Danes’ continued strong focus on health, the time is right to launch Denmark’s first low-calorie cider, which more people are also demanding.”
Aagaard added.
The cider company is committed to expanding its market, offering what consumers currently demand. “Producing a low-calorie cider is tricky because taste is the most important parameter, but after a lot of painstaking and hard work, we now have a cider that we are sure consumers will enjoy. We see a clear trend in the market that more people want a less sweet cider variant and, of course, we want to accommodate that,” Aagaard reiterated.
