CANPACK POWERS ALL ITS PLANTS WITH RENEWABLE ENERGY

The Canpack Group, one of the world’s largest packaging manufacturers, is committed to the fight against global warming. The company has announced that from the beginning of 2022 all of its facilities will run exclusively on renewable energy.

In particular, the factories based in Poland, England, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Colombia, which until now used green energy, will be joined by factories in India, Brazil, Romania, Dubai, Russia and Morocco, among others. The green energy used comes from the company’s own photovoltaic panels, as well as from agreements with electricity suppliers and the purchase of guarantees of origin.

In addition to investing in renewable energy sources, each center has environmental targets for 2025 and 2030, covering parameters such as electricity, thermal energy, water consumption and the amount of waste produced.

Roberto Villaquirán, general manager of Canpack Group, points out that “thanks to this, not only will our products be recycled an infinite number of times, helping to reduce the consumption of natural resources, but the production process itself will be even more environmentally friendly”.

For his part, John O’Maoileoin, CanpaCanck Group Sustainability Director adds that “our latest commitment to move to green energy only underscores Canpack’s commitment to addressing climate change. By investing in renewable electricity, we will not only significantly reduce our carbon footprint, but also help lead the way in sustainability.”

In addition, the company recently signed up to the ‘Science-Based Targets’ (SBTi) initiative, according to which climate targets are only considered “scientifically sound” if they serve to prevent global temperatures from rising by more than 2 °C above pre-industrial levels, with the most desirable increase being no more than 1.5 °C.
