Diageo North America has decided to make a donation of ten million cans of water, each containing 12 ounces, to Convoy of Hope, a humanitarian organization that works to help local communities in the United States that are affected by natural disasters or humanitarian crises. These cans will be stored in strategic locations so that they can be quickly distributed to communities and organizations in times of emergency.
A variety of malt-based spirits and premixed cocktails are produced at Diageo’s Lincolnway facility in Plainfield, Illinois. Once the cans are filled, they will be shipped to Convoy of Hope’s distribution center in Springfield, Missouri and other distribution partners throughout the United States.
Diageo North America is recognized for its excellence in the areas of supply and production, thanks to its efficient and innovative operations. “During the pandemic, we quickly redesigned ourselves to deliver much-needed disinfectant. Today, our effort to produce ten million cans of drinking water builds on our tradition of innovation and directly supports communities across the United States that have been struck by disasters. We are proud of our ability to use our scale and the opportunity to partner with Convoy of Hope to amass essential resources for crisis response.”said Marsha McIntosh, senior vice president of Supply Strategy Planning and Logistics for Diageo North America.
A global humanitarian organization called Convoy of Hope, based in Springfield, Missouri, is dedicated to helping people in situations of poverty, hunger and disease. In addition to providing disaster relief around the world, they also work to support communities in need through programs such as child feeding, agricultural training and women’s empowerment. In partnership with churches, businesses and government agencies, Convoy of Hope has provided assistance to communities affected by natural disasters such as tornadoes, floods and wildfires. Last year alone, they responded to 36 disasters in the United States and have already responded to 37 this year.
Ethan Forhetz, vice president of Convoy of Hope, expressed his appreciation for Diageo’s donation of ten million cans. This contribution will go a long way in addressing urgent drinking water needs during disaster situations to support affected families and communities. Forhetz emphasized the importance and positive impact this donation will have on Convoy of Hope’s relief efforts.
Leadership in the relief initiative is provided by Diageo CARES (Diageo Community Activity and Relief Efforts), a platform that provides opportunities for employee volunteering, fundraising and community giving in the U.S. and Canada. Through this platform, the company has provided natural disaster support and donations over the past ten years in the U.S., as well as direct pandemic relief funding to the hospitality industry and its workforce. Some of these actions include financial and volunteer support to communities affected by tornadoes and severe storms, such as the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2017 and Kentucky in 2021, both facing unprecedented challenges due to the impact of such natural phenomena.
