On September 26, the National Chamber of Metal Packaging Manufacturers, CANAFEM, held the XV TAE&B Seminar: Canned Food and Beverage Technology – Innovation and Sustainability, which took place at the Business Center of the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ).
This event received about 800 students from both the UAQ and different higher education institutions such as the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí y Zona Huasteca, the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes, the Instituto Tecnológico de Celaya, the Instituto Tecnológico de Roque, the Universidad Autónoma de Guanajuato, the Universidad Politécnica de Celaya, the Universidad Tecmilenio Querétaro, the Universidad Tecnológica Corregidora de Colima, among others, Universidad Politécnica de Celaya, Universidad Tecmilenio Querétaro, Universidad Tecnológica Corregidora de Colima, among others
The program started with the presence of Silvia Lorena Amaya Llano, rector of the UAQ, José Santos Cruz, director of the Faculty of Chemistry of the same university. Also participating were Eduardo Enrique Argueta Corral, president of CANAFEM, José Luis Gutiérrez Buces, secretary and former president of CANAFEM and Salvador Badui Dergal, food industry advisor, as guest of honor.
Recognition of merit
This meeting was used to present the first recognition awarded by the National Chamber of Metal Packaging Manufacturers to Salvador Badui for his outstanding career, his contributions to the canned food industry, especially in canned foods, as well as his tireless work dedicated to dissemination and academic training.
Afterwards, the opening ceremony took place with the participation of the president of CONCAMIN, Alejandro Malagón Barragán, the president of CANAFEM, Eduardo Argueta, the secretary and former president of CANAFEM, José Luis Gutiérrez Buces, secretary and former president of CANAFEM. Also present at the opening ceremony were Beatriz Liliana Álvarez Mayorga of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Autonomous University of Querétaro and co-organizer of the seminar, María Verónica Ramírez-Gámiz Mouret, director of Support for SMEs of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development of the state of Querétaro, Gabriela Burgos Ochoa, director of Economic Development and Entrepreneurship of the municipality of Querétaro, and Jesús Rodríguez, former municipal president of Querétaro. During the inauguration of the seminar, Alejandro Malagon recognized CANAFEM’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. After addressing a few words to the young undergraduate and graduate students from the various faculties of food chemistry who attended this seminar, Salvador Badui spent a few minutes to spend time with the attending students, who were excited and enthusiastic to have the presence of the author of the book “Química de los Alimentos”, a fundamental work for their professional training, which the professor himself signed for the attendees.
As every year, the event was attended by leading industry experts who addressed the topics of introduction of the metal packaging sector, innovation in the manufacture of steel cans, innovation in the manufacture of aluminum cans, uses and advantages of can coatings, innovation in the use of coatings, thermal processes in food canning, standards and regulations for canned foods, myths and realities of canned foods.
Along with the seminar, attendees were also able to meet with several of the companies in the sector based in Querétaro, through stands located inside the facilities of the Business Center, for the reception of resumes.
Arturo Cobián, CEO of CANAFEM and Beatriz Álvarez, led the closing ceremony of the XV TAE&B 2024 Seminar. Cobián recognized Álvarez for her efforts in organizing this event at the UAQ.
