In recent years, the Calvo Group has been immersed in an ambitious industrial transformation process, focused on the development of production technology. Its main bets are the ‘Real Peel’ techniques and its most recent and important innovation in decades, the ‘Vuelca Fácil’: a can that is easier to use and offers total safety, as well as being more environmentally friendly and economical to produce.

The Carballo matrix is now an intelligent plant, which will allow the entire process to be automated thanks to robotization and real-time control of all operations to be able to correct any deviation instantly. In the last five years, the company has invested around 30 million euros in order to undertake a profound industrial transformation process.

Vuelca Fácil’ has been on the market for a year now, during which the company has progressively expanded the format in different segments and categories within the Spanish market. By 2022, the group plans to start introducing it in the Italian market and, in the medium term, it also expects to implement the model in American plants. “This commitment to industrial transformation makes us a more efficient, flexible and sustainable company. With the ‘Vuelca Fácil’ we hope to energize the canned fish sector worldwide,” says CEO Mané Calvo.

The Calvo Group has exceeded the initial assumptions, despite the arrival of the coronavirus. In 2020, it achieved 83.77% of the electricity consumed in all its factories in Europe and the Americas to be of renewable origin, when the target was to reach 50%. Also, 95% of the material it sells is recyclable.

Finally, the Galician government is working on a new strategic canning plan to define the sector’s roadmap until 2030 in areas such as marketing, innovation, employment, the environment and regulations affecting the industry.
