Buenos Aires already has the most modern recycling plant in the country. The new facility recovers ten tons per hour of dry materials such as cans, paper, cardboard, glass and plastic from separate waste collection.
The new plant, installed within the Villa Soldati Recycling Center, uses MRF (Material Recycling Facility) technology, which recovers ten tons of waste per hour, while the Green Centers that do not yet have this technology process about 6 tons per day.
The MRF plant, in addition to having a greater treatment capacity, has machinery that allows the recycling of metal, paper, cardboard, glass and plastic with a better quality, since the sorting process is much higher.
The process involves an automated loading line, a first section for separating two- and three-dimensional materials, a separator for ferrous and non-ferrous materials, an optical reader for separating plastic materials, a glass separator, a manual refining area and a baler.
There are currently eight green centers installed in different areas of the city that function as separation and logistics centers. There, urban waste pickers take the recyclable material they collected in the manual green bells (containers), green points or in the building consortiums to process them and thus recover the materials that can be sold. In addition, the Recycling Center also functions as an Educational Center, receiving visits to raise environmental awareness among the public.
