In the spring of 2020, restaurants and bars had to close due to aluminum shortages. This led to a sharp rise in consumption in the community

The lack of aluminum affects local brewers and importers alike. In radio interviews, they have asked to be compensated through balances and discounts, as well as incentives to increase consumer spending in order to purchase additional cans.

When aluminum is hard to come by these days, brewery owners prefer to brew their beers from other products, such as ingredients that have special intonation to them.

“Cans have been the biggest problem for us.” says co-founder Lucas Szymanowski.

Shortage of aluminum cans puts all brewers at risk

It was in the spring of 2020 that brewers began to deal with a shortage of cans, as well as many other businesses that use cans as a fundamental part of their production. The reason they were thwarted was due to the centralization of the Greeks, which led to an increase in market strength.

The aluminum crisis affected the demand for cans. This was evident in the soft drinks that required a greater amount of these metallic digits. Thus, there were not enough cans for everyone. Says Bart Watson, chief economist for the Brewers Association, that this was the reason for the creation of the barrel-proof (alcohol) price.

Many of the supply chain problems included delivery delays. More can needs continue. According to the Aluminum Association, the level of domestic demand continues to grow compared to expectations, although it was lower than expected.

The demands for aluminum cans during the transition have a serious backlash due to the increase imposed by the industry. Before, S27 Ales could buy large quantities of aluminum cans when needed; now, they are forced to wait and support the higher price for pallets.

“When we order the aluminum cans, you need to pay between five and ten thousand dollars because there are those opportunities at that time,” says Szymanowski.

Experts say supplies are slowly improving

“As Watson says, prices will be more expensive with availability also improving as a good thing. We are seeing line capacity increasing again, which helps our business, Belinda.”

Meanwhile, the brewers help each other.

What made it become very common in the community was when everyone else used to send messages to everyone else when asking each other for help. Szymanowski quotes “you have a need, I need half a pallet of cans.”

The can shortage group is part of the massive gathering that has been organizing worldwide, with a different objective: “Continue to work together to overcome the challenges of the can shortage.”
