Bill Gates, the well-known founder of Microsoft, has become a major investor in Heineken, the Dutch multinational. This means that Gates is now a major shareholder in the brewing giant.

Although Bill Gates is not a great fan of beer, he decided to make an investment in the brewing company with the purchase of 3.76% of the shares of the company that occupies the most prominent position in the Brazilian market.

Specifically, a document from the AFM (Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets) said that the shares were acquired on February 17. Heineken Holding has a controlling interest in the brewery Heineken NV.

The document revealed that Gates bought 10.8 million shares in Heinken Holding, worth 883 million euros ($895 million), which obliges it to disclose the information in accordance with Dutch stock market rules.

In 2018 Gates took to a Reddit chat, where he confessed that he was not a big beer drinker, often drinking a light beer only at social events such as baseball games. Heineken Holding controls 50% of Heineken NV, a manufacturer of Heineken and other beers such as Amstel, Moretti and Sol.

Heineken is the second largest brewery in the world, behind only AB InBev (holding company of Brazil’s Ambev), the Dutch company has been investing consistently in Brazil in recent years and has a new R$ 1.8 billion plant under construction in the state of Minas Gerais.
